Gary Petersen was born (1956) in Staten Island, New York. He holds a B.S. degree from The Pennsylvania State University and an M.F.A. from The School of Visual Arts.

Albee Foundation Visual Arts Fellowship Award, 1988.
His work is in several private and public collections including The Dallas Museum of Art, The United States Department of State, Roanoke College and The University of Texas Hospital, Dallas, Texas. He currently has a studio in Bushwick, Brooklyn and resides in Hoboken, New Jersey.
